Match Report: Youth Team Lose Out In Final

The youth team were beaten 3-0 by Oldham Athletic in the final of the Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup last night.

A second-half goal from Jake Hargreaves and a double by Brendy Glackin ensured The Latics lifted the trophy at Boundary Park.

The hosts started the game the brighter of the two sides, with Blackpool doing the majority of the defending in the opening 15 minutes.

The first real chance for Ciaran Donnelly’s side came after 20 minutes when Elliot Pond won a free-kick in a dangerous area. Rowan Roache put a good ball into the box that was headed out for a corner.

At the half-hour mark, Roache shot from outside the box and saw his effort go wide of the goal.

Jack Sims was then called into action just before half-time and produced a fine save to palm a curling shot by Brendy Glackin over the crossbar.

Half-Time: Oldham Athletic 0-0 Blackpool

The hosts took the lead just before the hour mark when Lee Knight played a ball into the box that Hargreaves smashed into the back of the net.

They could have added a second goal just moments later when Glackin headed the ball from two yards and then pounced on the rebound, but he was denied by Jack Sims who pulled off an amazing double save.

Glackin made amends in the 70th minute when he finished off a counter-attacking move from a Blackpool corner to double Oldham’s lead.

Glackin then got a third goal for his side 10 minutes later when he was played through on goal by Alex Read’s exquisite through ball.
