Ed Ling put in a fantastic performance in day one of trap qualifying to shoot 73/75.
The score puts him up to second place out of 33 competitors ahead of the second qualifying session and the finals tomorrow.
Ling missed his second bird in his first round of shooting but didn’t let that affect him as he kept his composure to finish the first round with a score of 24/25.
He then repeated the score in the second round and hit every target in the third round to give him an overall score of 73/75.
Speaking after his performance, he said: “I’m really pleased with how today has gone.
“I was a bit anxious and took a little while to get going. The first round I was a little bit tight on the first few targets.
“I managed to get away with it and pulled off some good second shots which calmed me down and I went from strength to strength. I’ll take a 25 anywhere I can get it, so that was good.”
His performance today puts him in a great position ahead of tomorrow’s second qualifying session which starts at 1:30pm BST with the finals scheduled for 7pm.
And when asked how he will stay focused in his down time overnight, he said: “I’ll just do the same as I always do. I’ll go back and chill out.
“It’s a 5 round competition to get to the final so we’re only just past the halfway stage.
“I’m aware of other people’s scores with the big scoreboard being right next to where we’re performing. Over the years I’ve trained myself to look at the scores so it’s not a surprise – but I’ll put them out of my head for tomorrow.”
