Ciaran Donnelly was delighted with the way his side comfortably progressed to the semi-finals of the Lancashire FA Youth Cup with a 4-1 win against Accrington Stanley.
Rowan Roache’s double and Finlay Sinclair-Smith’s effort gave Blackpool a commanding lead within half an hour.
Despite conceding just before half-time, Donnelly’s side bounced back in the second-half to extend their lead through Chea’s header.
Speaking post-match, here’s what the academy manager had to say…
A great performance.
I thought we were outstanding today. We knew it would be a tough test because Accrington have an excellent record this season and we know their strengths have always been team spirit, work-rate and determination to not get beaten. We set off out of the blocks really well and played at a super tempo.
The style of play.
The football that we play has been excellent this season. For people who might want to watch the youth team play, I’d say it’s well worth it because we play some of the best football I’ve ever seen at this level. In my five years here, we’ve never had a team that could play football as well as this team can play.
We showed that we’ve learnt the lessons from Friday. It was the same situation as the game on Friday where we were winning by two goals at half-time and then had the task of managing the game.
Progressing to the semi-finals.
It’s really pleasing to progress into the next round of the cup. We got knocked out of the FA Youth Cup and dropped a few places in the league so we didn’t want to lose. It was a big statement from the lads that they want to win things.
