Match Report: Youth Team Go Two Points Clear

The youth team went two points clear the top of the North West Youth Alliance table with a 4-0 win against Wrexham on Saturday.

After a goalless first-half, Will Dunne broke the deadlock to put Blackpool ahead before Rowan Roache doubled the lead.

Ralph Chea, who was playing in his last game for the club, added a late double in quick succession to add gloss to the scoreline.

The victory for Ciaran Donnelly’s side, coupled with second-placed Burnley’s 4-4 draw against Shrewsbury, means that Blackpool need to avoid defeat against Morecambe next Saturday to seal the league title.

Neither side was able to create any early chances, with the Welsh side well marshalled in defence to stop any chances.

The first effort came after the half hour mark when Cameron McGregor went close to scoring with a long-range shot that went over Jack Sims’ crossbar.

At the other end, Fin Sinclair-Smith had a curling shot that went off-target.

Not long after the interval, Roache cut inside from a wide position and rattled the post with a shot from outside the area.

The deadlock was broken on the hour mark when Chea went on a driving run into the area and cut the ball back to Dunne who was able to capitalise on the opportunity.

A few minutes later, The Seasiders won a penalty for a foul on Ewan Bange. Roache stepped up to take it but his effort was well saved by Owen Kirkham.

The Republic of Ireland international came close again as he had a shot saved. Chea was first to the rebound but his effort was cleared off the line.

Roache hit the woodwork for the second time in the match as his delivery from a corner smashed against the crossbar.

Late on in the game, he deservedly scored his 30th goal of the season. Kirkham punched out a cross as far as the striker who scored with a powerful half-volley.

Roache’s strike sparked a frantic flurry of goals, with Chea scoring two in as many minutes. His first was a fantastic strike as he rifled the ball into the top corner from 25 yards out.

A minute later he scored again. Des Pres led a Blackpool counter-attack and played the ball to Chea who scored from inside the area.
